Neighborhood Info:
It has been said that Dayton is a city of neighborhoods. Wilmington House and Roscommon Place are both located in Patterson Park, a quiet residential neighborhood within the Dayton city limits, but bordering suburban Kettering and Oakwood. Patterson Park is very popular with families of city employees, Dayton police officers and Dayton fire fighters. Named for the Patterson family, this neighborhood still places a strong emphasis on family and community.
Within walking distance of our communities, you will find a neighborhood ACE Hardware store, CVS and RiteAid pharmacies, and a Tim Hortons for your morning coffee. There are branch offices of Chase Bank, 5th/3rd, and BankOne as well as a National City/PNC ATM. If you are hungry, close-by you'll find: Elsa’s (a well-known local Mexican restaurant), Cold Beer & Cheeseburger’s, and Marion’s Pizza (voted best pizza in Dayton). There is even a neighborhood bar and a small independent carryout, too.
Just behind us is Horace Mann Elementary School. Formerly a Montessori, this school has long been considered one of the premier Dayton Public schools. A new, larger building, opened in October 2008 and was designated a neighborhood elementary. This state-of-the-art facility now accommodates students K-8. The school's playground is available to area residents except during school hours.
We are just a mile from the University of Dayton, and an easy drive (or a longer bike ride) to Downtown, Sinclair College, KCMA, Research Park, Wright State, and WPAFB. Since the Patterson Park area is centrally located, you can find most anything within a 5-10 minute drive. At move-in, each tenant receives a handout with directions to area points of interest. It is designed to orient you to the area, but if you ever need suggestions about what to do or where to find something in the area, all you have to do is ask!
If you want to really “see” the neighborhood, go to GoogleMaps.com and search for 1015 Wilmington (use street view). The pictures were taken summer 2007 when the street was being re-surfaced, but it’s still pretty cool. That’s our manager out front with the weed whacker!
